What to do in the area
Aberdaron is the perfect place to getaway - it seems to capture people’s hearts and they return year after year...

Virtually unchanged by the passage of time, the old fishing village of Aberdaron offers a warm welsh welcome. The area has so much to offer with its stunning coastal walks and unspoilt sandy beaches such as Whistling Sands (Porth Oer) where the smooth white sand literally whistles as you walk. Or if you are more adventurous why not try a bit of surfing in Hells Mouth bay (Porth Neigwl). Much of the area is owned by the National Trust, including Mynydd Mawr (‘the Lands End of Wales’), where on a fine day you can take in breathtaking views of Cardigan Bay, Bardsey Island, Snowdonia and even the mountains of County Wicklow in Ireland. There is a profusion of wildlife to been seen around these rugged cliffs and sea coves such as choughs, peregrines, kestrels, puffins along with dolphins, porpoises and seals.

Out on the water, Cardigan Bay offers excellent sailing opportunities. Many people visit from the nearby marinas at Abersoch, Pwllheli and Porthmadog. Fishing trips, coastal cruises with opportunities to watch dolphins and seals or day trips to Bardsey Island (a major centre of pilgrmage in Wales and the island of 20,000 saints) are all available. Beach fishing is also a very popular pastime all around the coast.

Other local activities in the area include swimming, windsurfing, canoeing, horse-riding, clay-pigeon shooting, quad-biking and diving courses. If they aren’t exciting enough why not take a trip to Ropeworks in Pwllheli where you can fly through the air on a Giant Swing, leap for a trapeze and descend ziplines! On the other hand you may just want to sit and relax on the beach or enjoy a drink in the local!
